A NOTE BEFORE WE GO ANY FURTHER
What this site is, and what it isn't.
Everything below is here to keep both of us safe. Read it once, then go do the work.
I'm not a doctor.
I'm not a doctor, therapist, counselor, psychiatrist, addiction specialist, or any other kind of licensed professional. I'm a guy who got sober and wrote some things down. Everything on this site — the journals, the emails, the posts, the videos, anything I might ever say on a call with you — is one person's experience and reflection. It is not medical advice, psychological advice, psychiatric advice, addiction treatment, or therapy.
Don't treat it as a substitute for any of those things. If you need help that I can't give, please go get it.
If you are in crisis right now.
If you are thinking about harming yourself, harming someone else, or you don't feel safe — stop reading this and reach out to a human being who is trained to help. In the United States, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day. Call or text 988. If you are outside the US, the closest equivalent is your country's emergency services or a crisis line listed at findahelpline.com.
If you are in immediate physical danger, call 911 (or your country's emergency number) or go to the nearest emergency room.
Coming back here can wait. Staying alive cannot.
About sobriety, withdrawal, and getting clean.
Stopping drinking or using drugs is a medical event for some people. Alcohol withdrawal, benzodiazepine withdrawal, and opioid withdrawal can be physically dangerous and in some cases fatal. If you have been drinking heavily or using regularly, please consult a medical professional before you stop on your own. A doctor, a clinic, an urgent care, your state's substance use hotline — any of these are appropriate. Going to inpatient treatment to get through the first few days safely is often the right move and is not weakness.
The journals and content on this site are designed for someone who has already made the decision to be sober and is past the medical phase of stopping. They are not a detox plan, a medical protocol, or a substitute for clinically-supervised care.
No promises about your results.
Sobriety is hard. Anyone who tells you they have a five-step program that guarantees results is selling you something. I am not selling you guaranteed results. The journals and any future programs are tools — they only do something if you do something with them. People who do the work tend to find their lives change. People who don't, don't. That is the whole equation.
Any testimonials, stories, or examples shared on this site or in any related content represent individual experiences and are not guarantees of similar outcomes. Your sobriety is your own. So is your relapse, if it happens. So is whatever comes after.
About relapse.
Relapse happens. It does not mean you have failed and it does not mean the work you did is gone. If it happens to you, get safe, get medically checked out if needed, and come back when you're ready. The community I run is for sober attempts, not sober records. There is no shame meter here.
Limitation of liability.
By using this site, reading the journals, joining any community I run, or working with me in any other capacity, you accept that Rhett Peters and Rebuild with Rhett are not liable for any outcome — good, bad, or otherwise — that results from anything you read or do based on this content. You are an adult making your own choices. I respect that. I also have to be clear about it.

Thank you for reading the small-print page. Most people don't. It says something about you that you did.
